May 13, 2021 - An Asian power plant has achieved a
12-month lifetime in the furnace floor of their Recovery Boiler using HASLE
D66. The power plant runs on black liquor and has a production capacity of
40MW. The 70m2 furnace floor is lined with a 70mm layer of castable.
Previously, the power plant used a castable with 60% alumina, but never reached
a lifetime past 4 months. To maintain a satisfactory run factor, they needed
the floor lining to last at least 12 months.
Initially, HASLE suggested lining the furnace floor with
HASLE D59A. It has high mechanical strength and excellent abrasion resistance,
but in this case, the HASLE D59A installation also lasted only 4 months. Upon
re-analyzing the conditions, they found that the main cause of erosion on the
furnace floor came from physical slag attack, as the slag flowed from one level
to the next. So, HASLE installed HASLE D66 instead, because it has even higher
mechanical strength than HASLE D59A. With HASLE D66 installed on the furnace
floor, the power plant achieved a satisfactory 12-month lifetime.
